03/08/08
Cantley Park v Miahs
1-2

Pre-Season Friendly

DC opened their 2008\09 season with a 1-2 defeat to Division Four side Miahs despite controlling the majority of the play. Simon Langthorne opened the scoring in the first half racing onto a pass from Steve Danby. He cooly knocked the ball past the advancing keeper although picked up an ankle injury as he collided with the keeper. New team manager, Richard Scaldwell wanted to see some of the new faces and gave debuts to Matt Bovey, Steve Barker and Andy Fookes whilst Owen started the game in goal, filling in for the injured Craig Fulllicks. DC kept the 1-0 lead until the 80th minute when Matt was adjudged to have nudged the Miahs striker in the box. Penalty awarded and scored with Steve Barker, taking the goalies jersey in the 2nd half, going the wrong way. DC continued to try and create chances but were unfortunately taken apart with a typical route one goal. A hefty boot up field by the Miahs keeper was flicked on by one of the strikers into the path of his partner (whose clearly not going to be playing Division Four football this season). He slotted the ball past Steve as a desperate challenge came in.
