v Wokingham & Emmbrook |
1-3 |
League |
| The Steamers walked
away with an undeserved defeat this morning against Wokingham and
Emmbrooke. After having a goal disallowed Owen opened the scoring
before a goalkeeping error from Craig handed the Wokingham side
a soft equaliser. Capitalising on their way back into the game Wokingham
scored a second leaving the Steamers chasing another game. DC created
some very good chances with Tom Lamb, Jordy and Jensen forcing the
opposition goalkeeper to pull off some important saves. The nail
in the coffin came late on in the game whilst DC were pushing more
players forward. |

v Woodley Saints Res |
1-1 |
League |
| DCS picked up another
point away from home in the league on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against
Woodley Saints Reserves. It was a tough match on a sticky pitch
but DC created some good opportunities in the first half and should
really have taken the lead when Steve Bell got in at the back post
but he pulled his effort wide. DC did make the breakthrough in the
first half when a cross field ball was met by Owen Temple coming
in off the left wing and calmly placing the ball into the back of
the net. DC failed to extend the lead and Woodley got back into
it when DC failed to pick up the runner from a corner. Woodley pushed
for the lead in the second half but failed to take their chances
and it could have cost them late on when Tom raced clear of the
defence only to shot at the keeper. The best chance of the match
fell in added time when Steve broke clear of the defence and played
in Owen who looked certain to score but the ball went wide with
Owen claiming a corner but the ref giving a goal kick. A point for
DCS was a good result away from home on a poor pitch.
Man of the match for this one was Tom who on his first start for
DCS caused problems for the Woodley defence all game.

v Metropolitan |
4-1 |
Berks
and Bucks 2nd Rnd |
| DCS continued their
run in the Berks & Bucks cup on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over
Bracknell division 1 side Metropolitan.
DC started the game well with both Jenson and Tom causing the Metropolitan
defence problems and the breakthrough eventually came when Jenson
beat the goalkeeper to a cross from Owen and eventually headed the
ball into an empty net. DC continued to push and grabbed a second
when Owen fed Jenson who calmly lobbed the keeper to make it 2-0.
Despite never really causing DC stand in goalkeeper Rory any problems
metropolitan were gifted a lifeline when Fookesy headed the ball
into his own net!!
At the start of the second half, Metropolitan started to push DC
back although never testing Rory in goal. DC went 3-1 ahead after
Simon either A) tried his hardest to miss or B) thought he was taking
part in the Soccer AM crossbar challenge. Eventually he headed the
ball down in the box with Owen drilling the half volley into the
bottom left of the goal. The forth goal was again scored by Owen,
this time Simon managed to flick on a near post corner and after
the ball was cleared off the line fell to Owen who managed to slot
the ball into the far left corner of the goal under a challenge
from the Metropolitan defender.
No man of the match award was given for this game because there
were so many good performances to choose from, instead the game
will go down as a good team performance. |

Away
v Polish Social |
2-4 |
League |
| DCS suffered another
league defeat at the hands of Polish Social on a wet and windy day.
The day started badly for DCS when they went behind early on but
were given a lifeline in the game when the Social keeper picked
up a back pass. Jenson promptly scored from the resulting indirect
free kick from 6 yards out. However Social again had the upper hand
making it 2-1 with the help of some bad defending. DC continued
to push for the equaliser and were rewarded when Simon broke from
the centre circle made up for his crossbar challenge antics last
week by finishing well and making it 2-2. The second half was delayed
while the referee decided whether to call the game off, in the end
the standing water was cleared from the pitch and the game continued.
DC found themselves behind again when some poor positioning allowed
Social to break and finish easily. The final nail in the coffin
came after DC conceded the forth from a Social corner. DC tried
to get back into the game but Social held on to claim all 3 points.
Man of the match for DC was defender Matt Bovey.
