02/09/07
Away v Woodley Saints Res
1-1

League

Danny Dainton scored DC's first goal of the new season although nearly did not know much about it. The keeper fumbled at a high ball under pressure from Danny and it bounced into the path of Danny who was able to head home. Woodley had already had the ball in the net by this point although the goal was disallowed for an offside. DC kept the pressure on and could have made it two when Chris had a his shot well saved by the keeper. Woodley persisted and eventually equalised in the last 15 minutes when their midfielder was allowed to shoot from distance.

Away v Woodley Wanderers
2-1

League

Owen and Simon scored their goals of the season as the Steamers notched up their first win of the season at the expense of Woodley Wanderers. After taking control of a lot of the first half, DC found themselves on the receiving end of a well taken opportunistic effort which sailed over Darrens head into the net. It took until added on time in the first half before DC got on level terms when Owen scored from close range. Simon won a tussle on the right and drilled the ball into the 6 yard box, the keeper made an initial save but the ball fell for Owen to hammer home. DC created more of the better chances in the second half and both Danny and Simon were unfortunate not to score. But within the final ten miniutes, Steve Bell made a decent run into the area, beat the keeper but saw his shot cleared to the feet on Simon who managed to get the ball over the line.

Starting XI:

Holder; Glen, Sprackling, Scaldwell, Danby; Taylor, Bixby, Bell, Temple; Langthorne, D Dainton

Home v Good Companions
1-2

League

The Steamers suffered their first defeat going down to a late goal to the Good Companions. The Opposition took the lead on 25 minutes after a mixup in defence giving the striker time to smash the ball past Darren. It didn't take too long for DC to get back on terms though as Simon added to his seasons tally, slotting home from close range after another defensive mistake. In the second half both teams created few chances; the Goodies had a free kick skim over the bar whilst Rob had a decent effort saved. As the game looked to be heading for a draw, the opposition found acres of space on the left. A delightful cross was put into the area just as Rory flagged for offside. The ball continued to the back past where an unmarked player ran in and connected to score. The referee under pressure, consulted Rory although gave the goal. Unfortunately the game was spoilt with some strange decisions from the man in the middle hence the low score awarded

Home v Polish Social
2-6

League

Things did not start well today when it emerged the referee was not turning up and with DC with 12 players had to ask the opposition to referee the game. DC took control of the early stages of the game and created a few chances before taking the lead when Jordy's shot sqeezed in the near corner of the post. DC then lost Darren with a dislocated finger leaving Jensen to take over in goal who was struggling with a hamstring injury. The Polish equaliser eventually came when the Steamers defence failed to clear leaving a player to hammer the ball passed the standin keeper. Chris then gave DC the lead again after chasing down the last defender. Nicking the ball off him, his shot seemed destined for the keepers arms although it sailed over him and into the net. Things went downhill from this point as straight from the restart the Polish equalised with a lobbed goal over Jens. Andy then went down in agony clutching his knee and had to be replaced by Duncan. During half time, Rory replaced Jensen in goal as the hamstring injury had taken its toll. This left DC unable to provide a linesman and with the opposition refusing to provide a second one, the second half was going to be tough. The opposition scored 4 more goals during the second half before Neil went down after twistinig his knee in the dying minutes.

Starting XI:
Subs
Ref
Holder; Cooke, Sprackling, Pitkin, Holt, Jordan, Scaldwell, Bixby, Taylor; Bell, Langthorne
Langford for Holder, Glen for Holt, O'Neill for Langford
Self Appointed - 70 / 100
