Mar 02nd 2003 v Salisbury Club

1-1

League
DC's title challenging season came to end at Palmer Park tonight where the Steamers required win to keep up with the rest of the challenging pack. On a hard surface on a Tuesday night, DC failed to take control against the only team who could do the double over them this season. DC fell behind midway through the first half, Darren failing to hold onto a cross which landed at the feet of the arriving striker. DC did eventually get back into the game when Jensen caught Salisbury club on the counter attack before rounding the keeper and slotting the ball into the empty net. Rory and Chris replaced Paul and Duncan respectively although failed to help DC grab a winner. The starting lineup was as follows: Darren Holder, Howard Cooke, Ray Townsend, Duncan Glen, Steve Danby, Nick Smith, Steve Bell, Richard Scaldwell, Paul Allen, Jensen Langford, Danny Feasey
Scorers: Jensen
Subs: Rory for Paul, Chris for Duncan

A vastly improved performance was given by DC this morning as they fought from 2-0 down to even it up at 2-2 before they succumbed to some crap refereeing and two late goals. The Steamers packed their midfield leaving Danny alone up front and this ploy worked well as DC had a lot of the play in the first half. It wasn't until they conceded a corner in the 44th minute that Woodlands had their first real effort and scored from it. The team were still positive when they came out for the second half but went 2-0 down again from a corner leaving their left midfielder (who, for the record was having a shite game) to out-jump his marker to score. Steamers battled on and were eventually awarded a free-kick just outside the area. Step up Steve Danby !! Goal !!! There was a deflection somewhere en route and the linesman stuck his flag up. After consultation with the linesman, the ref awarded the goal. DC were back in it; and were soon on level terms when Steve Danby put over a corner only for it to be headed into his own net by a Woodlands player Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink style. This scoreline didn't last long as Woodlands went straight up DC's end, and, despite Rory flagging and the Woodlands player being yards offside, the ref played on and allowed the striker to make the score 3-2 in favour of the home side. DC then threw the kitchen sink at Woodlands, Even Darren came up for a corner leaving the most defensive Steamers player on the centre circle in the opposition half. Nothing came of the corner and Woodlands went up and scored a fourth in the dying minutes. The Steamers played well and ref was crap.  The starting lineup was as follows: Darren Holder, Howard Cooke, Mark Jarman, Andy Holt, Steve Danby, Chris Taylor, Richard Scaldwell, Steve Bell, Jensen Langford, Nick Smith, Danny Feasey
Scorers: Steve D, OG
Subs: Duncan for Jens
