Dec 01st 2002 v Crown Royals

4-0

Berks and Bucks 3rd Round
The hardest part of this fixture was getting to the ground. Losing half the team in a convoy and traveling around the Bracknell ring road was not enough though to deter the Steamers from marching into the fourth round of the Berks and Bucks Cup for the first time in the clubs history. The Wargrave side, who dominated the game from start to finish, limited the home side to a handful of chances and took the lead within the first fifteen minutes when Danny took advantage of a hefty clearance and the goalkeepers hesitancy to calmly slot the ball past the keeper. Danny should have made it 2-0 minutes later after some skillful play but could only watch as his shot crept over the bar. DC maintained their unrelenting attack on the Royals goal in the second half and Jensen made it 3-0 with two well taken goals. As soon as the third went in, Rory made two inspired substitutions bring Duncan and Howard on for Danny and Jensen respectively as a straight swap and within minutes the 4th goal went in. The ball found itself at Duncan's feet and with only Howard in support, he pushed on. Howard charged forward with him yelling 'Play me in' although Duncan had one thing in mind. He scuffed the ball sending the opponent the way way before letting rip with a thunderous toe punt into the near post true Duncan style. Finally, as the match drew to a close, Rory's inspirational substitution nearly added a 5th goal when Howard had a great header well saved by the keeper (How does that sound H)
The starting line-up was as follows: Darren Holder; Mark Jarman, Ray Townsend, Mark Berriman, Steve Danby, Richard Jordan, Steve Bell, Richard Scaldwell, Nick Smith Jensen Langford, Danny Feasey
Scorers: Danny, Jensen (2), Dunc
Subs: Paul A for Nick, Duncan for Danny, Howard for Jensen

League
A great well fought battle against Embrook gave DC their 3rd consecutive win over their opponents. Missing three first teamers, DC managed to field a strong starting eleven which included Rory in goal and Duncan up front alongside Steve Bell; and it was Duncan who setup Nick for the first goal of the game. A cross to the back post was headed back into the middle by Duncan who found Nick in space to score after a deflected initial shot. Ten minutes later Ray Townsend opened his account for the season when he smacked home a close range shot high into the roof of the net. The half time teamtalk was, for once, a positive one and inspired DC further in the second half. Steve Bell scored the 3rd after a superb turn and shot midway through the second period before Nick grabbed his second during a goalmouth scramble. Chris Taylor replaced Mark Berriman for a brief run out late on in the game as the Steamers grabbed another well earned and much needed 3 points.
The starting line-up was as follows: Rory O'Neill; Howard Cooke, Ray Townsend, Mark Berriman, Steve Danby, Nick Smith, Mark Jarman, Richard Scaldwell, Paul Allen, Steve Bell, Duncan Glen
Scorers: Nick (2), Ray, Steve B
Subs: Chris for Mark
