DC Steamers 7 Sportsman 2
The boys came back from the festive period and without a match for a month and banged 7 goals past our old rivals, Sportsman. The visitots took the lead early on the first half, only for Duncan Glen to level the game at 1-1 with a blistering shot from 6 yards out which went in off the post. Chris Taylor then hit the crossbar with a fine shot after beating two defenders. Steve Bell then made the score 2-1 in favour of the Steamers when he pounced on bad some bad defending. With an injury to Ray Townsend, Andy Holt replaced him and the formation was changed to 5-3-2 at the start of the second half. The pressure was then piled on and the goals started to flow in. Jenson Langford weighed in with two well placed shots before Paul Allen blasted one home from the edge of the area. Steve Danby then thundered one in after a great break by Jenson Langford and a cross field pass to Steve. Jenson then rapped up his hatrick from the penalty spot after a handball. The starting lineup was as follows: Nick Smith; Wayne Makepeace, Paul Allen, Ray Townsend, Duncan Glen; Richard Jordan, Chris Taylor, Steve Danby, Mickey Sheehan; Jenson Langford, Steve Bell. Subs: Andy Holt for Ray Townsend, Rory O'Neill for Richard Jodan, Stuart Brown for Mickey Sheehan.Top 16th Jan
ECMWF 1 DC Steamers 3
DC won their third successive match and maintained their 100% record this millenium. This week we were without a few first team regulars, Ray, Jenson and Andy Holt couldn't make it, Paul Allen went to watch Man City and Wayne..well we do not know what happened to him. This meant Neil Wilson had to be brought out of retirement (which he announced last week) and we welcomed back Tony Dempster from injury. The home team scored early on in the first half although eye winesses claim the player was offside when the ball was played. Steve Bell then levelled the scores when he chipped the keeper from just inside the area. Rory O'Neill then put the Steamers up when Richard Jordan put a ball through the defence as Chris Taylor was running back. This caused confusion amongst the defenders as they all stopped expecting an offside flag, Rory burst through though and knocked it past the keeper. Steve Danby finally rapped up the scoring and the match when his long range drive found the top corner of the net. Unfortunately for Richard Jordan though, he had to be carried off after a challenge and was replaced by Jason Knight. The second half did not produce anything to write about apart from the failed attempts on goal from the Steamers. The starting lineup was as follows: Tony Dempster; Chris Taylor, Neil Wilson, Duncan Glen, Stuart Brown, Mickey Sheehan; Steve Danby, Nick Smith, Richard Jordan; Rory O'Neill, Steve Bell. Subs: Jason Knight for Richard Jordan.Top
