DC dug
deep this morning to sweep aside a Bulmershe side that took the lead and
equalised before succumbing to a strong Steamers side. The home side started
well although went behind against the run of play when a dubious penalty was
awarded to the Bulmershe side. A high ball was played into the Steamers
penalty area, Howard and the opposing striker were jostling for positions and
the referee felt that Howard had impeded the striker. The penalty was
converted. Despite feeling unjustly penalized, DC kept up the pressure and
eventually got there deserved equaliser when Howard broke forward and sent a
long range effort looping over the keeper into the top corner from 20 yards
out. Danny made it 2-1 soon after when Howard won an important tackle in DC's
last third and found Richard Scaldwell in space. Richard, reading Danny's run,
laid a perfectly weighted through ball into his path leaving Danny to round
the keeper and pass the ball into the empty net. With no changes at half time,
DC continued from where they left off but eventually found themselves back on
level terms when an expected offside decision was over-ruled by the referee.
Despite the acute angle, the striker was able to guide the ball past Darren
into the corner of the goal. With this setback, DC refused to let their heads
drop and after a ten minute period where they lost their shape, DC regrouped
and carved out a chance that resulted in Jordi winning a penalty. Paul Allen,
who'd replaced Danny Feasey minutes before, laid a pass inside to Nick whose
flick found Jordi in the penalty area. As Jordi was shaping up to shoot, he
was cynically hacked down. Nick added to his goal tally for the season
by converting the penalty. Jordi did get himself on the scoresheet when a
cross field ball was well dummied by Nick allowing the ball to roll through to
Jordi. Unmarked and unchallenged, Jordi coolly stroked the ball past the
keeper. Duncan and Paul Smithson replaced Jensen and Steve Bell
respectively and created a chance late on.
The starting line-up was as
follows: Darren Holder; Howard Cooke, Mark Jarman, Mark Berriman, Andy Holt, Richard Jordan,
Richard Scaldwell, Steve Bell, Nick Smith, Jensen Langford, Danny Feasey
