14/08/05 - v Bracknell Manics

Up against the newly crowned champions of the Bracknell 2nd Division, DC knew this was going to be a stern test. It was the first pre-season friendly and it showed. DC were 5-0 (i think) down at half time and did not create anything in front of goal. The Manics did well from the kick off, hassling and closing balls down quickly putting DC under immense pressure. They burst through from midfield with some nice touches and racked up the goals The first Steamers corner came midway through the second half which shows the pressure placed on the Manics defence. From a positive point of view, DC gave debuts to Dale and Gordon who both did well on the left wing and up front respectively. It was also a good fitness exercise and a kick up the arse. The starting line-up was as follows: Nick Smith; Owen Temple, Howard Cooke, Neil, Chris Taylor, Richard Jordan, Steve Bell, Richard Scaldwell, Gordon Clark, Jensen Langford, Dale Seymour

21/08/05 - v Kidmore End

Steamers faced a Premier division side for the first time in a long time (cannot actually remember) in the form of Kidmore End. Two long range efforts from Richard Scaldwell sealed the win midway through the second half although the home team managed to pull one back late on. The team was chosen from Nick Smith; Owen Temple, Howard Cooke, Neil, Chris Taylor, Richard Jordan, Steve Bell, Richard Scaldwell, Gordon Clark, Jensen Langford, Dale Seymour, Peter Gordon, Darren Holder, Jason Knight

11/09/04 - Away v Chalfont Park

DC kicked off the new season with a hard fought 3-0 win over last seasons fellow strugglers Chalfont Park. DC had a large percentage of the overall possession and created the more clear cut chances but failed to convert any until the 70th minute. This was just after Gordon and Naji (both making their official debuts) replaced Jensen and Jordi. Gordon floated in a delightful corner straight onto the head of Simon to make it 1-0. Chalfont who had battled well without actually hurting DC then forced Darren into a couple of spectacular saves. (Not upping these saves, they really were goalbound efforts that had him stretching to prevent a goal). Peter Gordon who was also making his debut then added a 2nd goal with a header before Simon rounded off the game with a third close to the end. The starting line-up was as follows: Darren Holder, Chris Taylor, Andy Holt, Jensen Langford, Steve Danby, Richard Jordan, Richard Scaldwell, Steve Bell, Owen Temple, Peter Gordon, Simon Langthorne

02/10/05 - Away v Woodley Saints Res (TC1)

DC fought hard and progressed into the next round of the league cup by disposing of Woodley Saints Res. After an evenly contested first half which saw both teams create chances without managing to convert them, it took an own goal from Julian to separate the sides midway through the second half. DC rallied on and eventually drew level when Simon poked in a rebound. As extra time loomed, the game was turned on its head as Chris scored after the keeper had saved Simons initial shot. Woodley threw men forward although DC managed to absorb the pressure before Simon caught the opposition on the counter attack and scored from a near impossible angle. The starting lineup was: Holder, Cooke, Sandys, Pitkin, Temple; Taylor, Langford, Bell, Clark; Langthorne, Jordan

09/10/05 - Away v Purple Turtle

Again DC matched their opposition before felling behind midway through the second half. Two quick goals due to defensive errors put DC on the back foot. Steve Bell then scored with a trademark delicate lob to reduce the arrears but Turtle capitalised on a huge goal kick which eluded the Steamers defence to secure the win in the 90th minute. The Starting lineup was: Holder; Cooke, Sandys, Pitkin, Temple; Jordan, Scaldwell, Bell, Taylor; Langthorne, Gordon

16/10/05 - Away v Kennet Vale (BBC1)

Steamers outplayed their first division opposition to book a place in the 2nd round of the County cup. Simon got DC off the mark when he raced onto a through ball and slotted the ball past the onrushing keeper. The Steamers then 'fell asleep' and allowed a player to wander into the area unchallenged before poking the ball past Darren. Chris then restored DC's lead when he latched onto a great through ball from Steve Bell. He beat the last defender and knocked it past the keeper. Peter made it 3-1 when he struck the loose ball from a corner before Simon scored his second just before half time. The final nail in the Vale coffin came from the restart of the second half. Some good play between Jordy and Steve Bell on the right resulted in Jordy firing low into the far corner for his first goal of the season. The Starting lineup was: Holder; Cooke, Sandys, Pitkin, Danby; Jordon, Bell; Scaldwell, Taylor; Langthorne, Gordon

23/10/05 - Away v Earley Gunners

DC's good form continued with an emphatic win against Earley Gunners with Simon Langthorne bagging himself a hat-trick. The first came from a great through ball from Richard Scaldwell and then he put DC two up in the first half before Gunners pulled one back on the stroke of half time. Straight from the restart, DC regained their 2 goal cushion as Scaldie sent a beautifully guided curling shot past the despairing dive of the keeper into the corner of the net. This appeared to deflate the hosts as DC passed the ball well and continued to create chances. Steve Bell then claimed his second goal of the season with a deft touch and increase DC's advantage. With 5 named substitutes, Jensen threw on a few fresh legs with Gordon, Chris and Howard making way for Nick, Owen and Jason respectively. As time whittled down Jordy produced a sublime cross following some good work down the right which Nick connected with at the back post to make it 5-1. Simon' hat-trick was complete on full time as he capitalised on some poor goal keeping and walk it into the net. The starting line-up was: Holder, Cooke, Sandys, Pitkin, Taylor; Jordan, Bell, Scaldwell, Clark; Langthorne, Gordon

30/10/05 - Away v Woodley Saints Res

DC failed to continue their recent good run and were fortunate to come away with a point against the team they beat a few weeks earlier. The Steamers just did not get going and conceded midway through the first half when a defence cutting pass found the winger racing forward leaving Chris in his wake before rounding Darren to score. A silly challenge in the area then gave the home side a chance to go two up although the resulting penalty hit the bar and was cleared to safety. It was left to Richard Scaldwell to save DC's blushes as he pounced at a corner to poke the equaliser home. DC could have lost the game several times but a brilliant performance from Darren prevented Woodley from snatching the points. The starting line-up was as follows: Darren Holder; Howard Cooke, Kevin Pitkin, Julian Sandys, Chris Taylor; Richard Jordan, Richard Scaldwell, Steve Bell, Owen Temple; Simon Langthorne, Jensen Langford

Another hat trick from Simon Langthorne helped DC ease into the 3rd round of the league cup at the expensive of Autocare. The Steamers made a brilliant start with Simon scoring in the first minute before Naji opened his Steamers account to give DC a 2-0 lead. 11/12/04 - Home v Bulmershe OB's

Dec 11th 2005 v Bulmershe OB's 2-4 Berks and Bucks Round 3 DC's first home game of the season ended in defeat after a hard fought game against Bulmershe Old Boys. The opposition, sitting 3 points clear at the top of the Division One East, took the lead from a corner as Kevin's mis-clearance hit Julian and flew into the net. The Steamers plugged away and were awarded an unjustified penalty as Chris was adjudged to have been taken out by the keeper. Justice was done as the keeper pulled off a good save to keep Bulmershe ahead. This lead didn't last long though as Scaldie's brilliantly flicked header from a corner put the two teams level again. The second half was a different story. Scaldie went off injured, Steve Danby picked up a knock, Jensen had to rush off, and DC conceded 3 poor goals. Simon did score a late consolation goal taking his tally to 14 although it was not enough to progress in the cup The starting line-up was as follows: The starting line-up was as follows: Darren Holder; Howard Cooke, Kevin Pitkin, Julian Sandys, Steve Danby; Richard Jordan, Richard Scaldwell, Steve Bell, Chris Taylor, Jensen Langford, Simon Langthorne Scorers: Richard S, Simon Subs: Gordon for Richard S, Owen for Jensen

22/01/05 - Away v AFC Twyford

Steamers put in a poor performance against a team which looked beatable. DC were missing a few players and only managed to field a bare eleven players. Twyford took the lead before Howard scored a screamer from the right side. Despite claims of it being meant, it looked more like a cross. Twyford took the lead again in the second half before DC were awarded a fortunate penalty which Simon converted. The starting line-up was as follows: Darren Holder; Howard Cooke; Steve Danby, Julian Sandys, Kevin Pitkin, Jensen Langford, Richard Jordan, Steve Bell, Simon Langthorne, Rory O'Neill, Gordon Clark Scorers: Howard, Simon Subs: None

Owen replaced Howard in the second half and scored his first of the season by lobbing the onrushing keeper. 26/02/06 - Home v Earley Home Guard

DC maintained their 100% home record with a 2-1 win over Earley HG Res. Steve Bell scored his 4th of the season with a calmly placed shot after some good team build up. Richard Scaldwell made it 2-0 in the second half when he was left unmarked in the penalty box to head home.
